High-risk HPV infection is the inducement of Cervical Cancer. The epidemiological study of high-risk HPV is of great significance for cervical cancer prevention strategies and the use of HPV vaccines. On November 1, Professor ZHAO Chengquan of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and KingMed Laboratory jointly published an analysis of the high-risk HPV infection in Chinese women, with the currently largest sample size in the world. The article was published in the American Journal of Clinical Pathology.

Over the past years, KingMed labs have been using Yaneng HPV Genotyping products that can distinguish between 23-39 different HPV types at once on a gene chip. This is currently the largest HPV-related study with the largest sample size.

The data included in the article came from the female cervical exfoliation cell samples collected by KingMed lab test in 29 provinces and 2.45 million hospitals in China, general clinics, and physical examination centers, all of which were tested for HPV genotyping. The article only analyzed the high-risk HPV test results, demonstrating the prevalence of high-risk HPV was 19.1%.

HPV52, HPV16, HPV53, HPV58, and HPV51 rank in the Top5 at different ages, among which HPV52 and HPV16 rank in the top two in different ages, and HPV53 prevalence ranks 5th among those under 30 years old and above-ranked 3rd.

HPV52, HPV16, HPV53, HPV58, and HPV51 ranked the Top 5 in different regions, and HPV52 and HPV16 ranked the Top 2 in different regions. Northeast and North China had the highest prevalence of HPV16, and other regions had the highest prevalence of HPV52. The HPV53, HPV58, and HPV51 types have some differences in different regions.

Images 4: High-risk HPV multiple infections

High-risk HPV was mainly infected by a single type, accounting for 75.2% of the total positive samples. It is worth noting that the multiple infection rates of high-risk HPV under the age of 30 are relatively high, reaching 30.9% of the positive samples in this age group, suggesting that it may be more suitable for young women to receive HPV multivalent vaccine.
